Aftercare

There is no need to complicate aftercare. It’s actually quite simple. The best approach is to let your body heal naturally without interrupting the healing process. Here is our suggested aftercare, how to clean your piercing, what to avoid and what to do if complications occur:

Suggested Products:

  • Saline Wound Wash. You want a gentle saline solution directed for wound care. Like the one below:

✅ Isotonic. (0.9% sodium chloride)

✅ Drug-free/Additive-free/Preservative-free.

✅ Sterile.

  • Gauze. Sterile is recommended. Non-sterile single-use gauze is fine to use too.

How to clean piercing:

1.) Wash your hands with soap and warm water prior to cleaning your piercing!

2.) Saturate the gauze with saline and gently compress the piercing.

3.) Gently wipe any discharge around your piercing.

4.) Dry your piercing with clean gauze.

5.) Repeat one to two times a day until piercing is healed.

Things to avoid during healing:

-Do not touch or play with your piercing.

-Do not over clean your piercing. One to two times a day is enough.

-Do not sleep on your piercing. This will shift the angle of your piercing and/or damage it.

-Do not use any alternative products to clean your piercing other than saline wound wash.

-Do not turn, rotate or twist your piercing while cleaning. This will damage your piercing.

-Do not remove your jewelry during healing. Your piercing will shrink or close right away.

-Do not use beauty products on or near your piercing. Makeup, lotions, etc.

-Do not submerge your piercing in large bodies of water for two months. Swimming, etc.

Signs of symptoms of infection include, but not limited to:

-redness, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, elevated body temperature or purulent drainage from the procedure site.

*Infection is caused by bacteria being introduced to the healing piercing. Do not touch the piercing, restrict physical activities such as submerging the piercing in large bodies of water (bathing, recreational water activities), gardening, contact with animals during the healing time of the piercing.

Tips for possible complications:

Complications do occur. It happens. Irritation is common. Infection is rare. You seriously have to go out of your way for an infection. If you get a small bump or begin to see complications occurring, see below:

1.) Heat compresses. Heat is a vasodilator - it expands blood vessels, which helps oxygen, nutrients, and white blood cells get to the site of the piercing. It is effective with treating bumps and irritation bubbles caused by trauma. Heat encourages swelling.

2.) Cold compresses. Cold compresses help minimize swelling, but have the opposite effect of the heat compresses - they shrink blood vessels.

3.) Heat and cold compresses. Heat compresses followed by cold compresses help increase circulations without encouraging additional inflammation. Excessive moisture should be avoided.
